These works are my first for social justice. I began this work for me and my healing after misery from serious health issues and an abusive relationship. Quickly I realized these paintings are for anyone who has suffered abuse of the creative self or abusive control, hateful criticism, condemnation, or judgment of differences one may have from the advertised perfect human and what society renders “good” or “acceptable.”
The underpaintings are full of life, movement, texture, color, breath and freedom. The subsequent layers cover up the free life and represent rules, laws, expectations of others, abusive control, bullying, and any abusive behavior toward another, which causes one to lose the self.
