Artist Statement
"The underpinning sound waves, words of emotions and wonder, feelings, calm, excitement, stress, sadness, grief, elation, trauma, and security are encapsulated in gestures of hues associated with the colors and textures of music. The Science of the Sound of Music and Emotion is a culmination of my years of experiences as a neurodivergent being."
The layers represent the human emotional scale, just as sound and music are created in a polyphonous array of color. The vibrations of the sound of each note on a variety of instruments creates a complexity not dissimilar to the enormous atlas of emotional frequencies. Mosbacher possesses a high-sensory empathy called Chromesthesia, which means she sees sound, and more specifically music and rhythms. Diving deeper into her work, she realized she can also see the colors and shapes of noticeable emotions that shift moods, physical sensations, and changes in thought processes. Karen utilizes these gifts to create multidisciplinary artwork that exhibits the taxonomy of human emotion in reactions to classical, jazz, and new music.
